15 July | Mission day

Skills grow faster when they are shared.

Skills are taught in classrooms and learned at work. Mentoring is the bridge: half an hour with someone who uses the skill every day and can say which parts actually matter.

World Youth Skills Day

Why this date works for mentoring.

The UN ties this day directly to employment, entrepreneurship and future-ready skills, which is the whole point of a session.

Employability, not theory

Interviews, applications, apprenticeships and what employers really look at.

Entrepreneurship

Starting something, selling, pricing and the first hire, from people who have done it.

Future-ready skills

How AI, automation and new tools are changing the job the mentee is aiming at.

Reach across borders

A mentee in one country matched to a mentor in another, on one programme.

How it runs

From sign-off to a number you can report.

  1. 01

Six weeks out, pick the number

Agree how many 30-minute sessions the day is aiming for, and who they are for.

  2. 02

    Four weeks out, open sign-ups

One link goes out internally. Colleagues say yes in a minute and pick nothing else.

  3. 03

    Two weeks out, we match

Mentees are matched on subject and time zone, and sessions land straight into diaries.

  4. 04

    On the day, it runs

Sessions happen, the counter climbs, and your people see the total move in real time.

  5. 05

    The week after, you report

A wrap-up with sessions, subjects, countries, hours given and trees planted.

Campaign ideas

What partners actually do on the day.

  • A target of one session per apprentice in your intake

  • Mentors drawn from the roles you struggle to fill

  • A skills question set published beforehand so mentees arrive ready

  • A wrap-up naming the ten skills mentees asked about most

Questions

The things people ask first.

Which skills get covered?

Whatever the mentee brings. In practice: interviews, confidence, industry knowledge, tools and next steps.

Do mentors need to teach?

No. They answer questions from experience. We brief both sides before the call.

Can this run globally?

Yes. Mentors and mentees are matched across countries and time zones.

Make World Youth Skills Day count this year.

A 15-minute call is enough to agree the date, the target and who the sessions go to.
