A manifesto in six lines

The best career advice in the world
already exists. It is just never in the room with a school leaver in Bradford.

mentorhero exists to close that distance. 30 minutes, with someone who has done the thing you are trying to do, wherever you happen to have been born.

Who gets advice today

People who already know someone.

  • 01A parent in the industry
  • 02A university with an alumni network
  • 03A manager who takes an interest
  • 04A friend of a friend who will take the call
Who does not

Almost everybody else on earth.

8 in 10

of people have never had a single conversation with someone working in the career they wanted. Talent is spread evenly. Access is not.

One

Advice should not depend on a postcode.

A session is booked from anywhere with a connection, in any timezone, with no travel and no gatekeeper deciding who is worth the introduction.

Two

30 minutes is enough to change a decision.

We are not selling a twelve week programme. One honest 30 minutes, at the moment someone is deciding, changes more than a year of vague encouragement.

Three

The mentee never pays with money they do not have.

Mentees reach mentorhero through their university, employer, charity or public body. The cost sits with the institution, never the person asking.

Four

Expertise is the most wasted resource on the planet.

Millions of people carry knowledge that took decades to earn and is asked for perhaps twice a year. We turn that idle expertise into 30-minute blocks.

Five

If we cannot measure it, we do not claim it.

Every session is counted, every outcome is reported back to the organisation that funded it, and nothing is rounded up for a brochure.

Six

Every conversation leaves something behind.

One tree is planted for every session held. The person gets the advice, the planet gets the tree, and neither is a marketing line we can quietly drop.

How we measure the mission

312People reachedCounted as individuals who completed at least one session, not as sign-ups or page views.
1,248Sessions completedThe only number that means anything to us, because it is advice that actually reached somebody.
43CountriesLive reach across the network, held as standard rather than used as a headline.

Before you ask

On the mission

Why 30 minutes?

It is the largest amount of time a busy expert will reliably give, and it is enough to answer one question properly.

Is mentoring really the bottleneck?

For most people the information exists somewhere. What is missing is a person who will apply it to their situation.

How will you know it worked?

We publish hours given, people reached and sessions completed, and we hold ourselves to those figures in public.
