We use a small number of technologies to keep mentorhero working and to keep your account secure. We do not use cookies to track you, to measure your behaviour, or to advertise to you.
This policy explains what those technologies are, what we store, and how you can control it. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers what we do with your personal data more broadly. We may update this policy from time to time where reasonably necessary.
1. About this policy
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website, letting the site recognise your device and remember things about your visit.
In this policy, "cookies" also covers similar technologies used for the same purposes, including local storage, pixels, tags, and tokens carried in web links.
This policy applies to mentorhero.com, app.mentorhero.com, and any other mentorhero service, tool or content that links to it. All are operated by Mentorhero Limited, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ.
2. The cookies we use
There are four categories in common use: strictly necessary, functional, analytics and advertising.
mentorhero uses strictly necessary technologies only. We do not use functional, analytics or advertising cookies. That means we do not show you a cookie banner, because there is nothing for you to consent to or decline.
If that ever changes, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent before placing anything non-essential on your device.
2.1 Strictly necessary
These keep the service running and your account secure. They are set automatically and do not require consent, because without them mentorhero cannot do the thing you have asked it to do.
Your sign-in session
- What it is: a secure token issued when you verify your email address, held in your browser's local storage under a key beginning
sb-and ending-auth-token. - Why we need it: to keep you signed in as you move between pages, and to renew your session quietly in the background so you are not asked to verify your email on every screen.
- Who sets it: mentorhero, through Supabase, the platform running our authentication and database.
- How long it lasts: your session renews automatically while you are active and expires after a period of inactivity. Signing out clears it immediately.
- If you block it: you will not be able to sign in or use your mentorhero account.
That is the complete list of what we store in your browser.
2.2 Functional, analytics and advertising
We do not use any. To be specific:
- No Google Analytics, and no other analytics or measurement tool
- No advertising or retargeting pixels of any kind, including Meta, Google and LinkedIn
- No cookies that follow you to other websites
- We do not sell, rent or share browsing data with anyone
3. Links we email you
Most of your journey through mentorhero happens through links we email you, for example to confirm your details, build your profile, or book a session.
Those links carry a token that tells us which step you are on and that the link genuinely came to you. The token is specific to that one action, expires, and does not track your browsing or follow you to other websites. We explain how we handle the personal data behind it in our Privacy Policy.
3A. Cookies set by Daily, our video provider
When you join a mentoring session, the video call runs through Daily. Daily sets its own cookies and local storage in your browser to make the call work, to keep it stable, and for its own service analytics, such as connection quality and error reporting.
Those are third-party cookies. They are set by Daily under Daily's own privacy and cookie policy, and this policy does not cover what Daily does with what it collects. They are placed only when you actually join a call, not when you browse the rest of mentorhero.
We do not receive advertising or cross-site tracking data from Daily, and Daily does not use what it collects on our platform to advertise to you.
4. Other companies' services
Some parts of mentorhero hand you over to another company. Once you are with them, their cookie practices apply rather than ours, and we would encourage you to read their policies.
- Daily runs your video mentoring sessions. When you open a session link, Daily sets its own cookies to make the call work.
- Stripe handles payments from partner organisations. Mentees never pay for mentoring, so most people will never encounter it.
- Supabase and Vercel host our data and our websites. Neither sets tracking cookies on our behalf.
4A. If you are under 18
We do not use marketing cookies or advertising pixels for anyone, and that includes anyone we know to be under 18. There is nothing here that profiles a young person.
4B. Things that are your choice, not a fault
Blocking or deleting cookies and browser storage is your choice. Because everything we set is strictly necessary, blocking it stops parts of mentorhero working, including signing in and booking a session. That is a consequence of the setting rather than a fault with the platform.
The same applies where a browser, an extension, a corporate network or a device policy blocks scripts or storage. We cannot guarantee mentorhero works as intended in that case.
Anything stored on your device is specific to that device and that browser. If you switch device or browser, or clear your storage, you will be signed out and asked to sign in again. That is how the technology works.
4C. If you reach mentorhero through your employer
Where you use mentorhero on a device managed by your employer, your university or the organisation that referred you, that organisation is responsible for any cookie, tracking or consent obligations arising from its own device management, network monitoring or browser policy. We are not responsible for cookies set by their systems, intranet, single sign-on provider or analytics running alongside mentorhero.
4D. Automated privacy signals, and providers changing their own cookies
Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or a similar automated signal, we honour it in the countries where the law requires it. In practice it changes nothing here, because we set nothing you would need to opt out of.
The providers we use may change the names, purposes or lifespans of their own cookies without telling us in advance. We update this policy when we become aware. A difference between a name listed here and one you see on your device does not mean we are tracking you for a purpose you did not agree to.
Cookie law differs by country. Where the rules where you live require something different from this policy, those rules apply to you, and nothing else here is affected.
4E. If we ever set non-essential cookies
We do not set analytics, functional or advertising cookies today, so there is nothing here to opt in or out of and you will not see a consent banner. This section sets out what will happen if that changes, so the rules are written down before they are needed rather than after.
Where we set any cookie that is not strictly necessary:
- a banner will ask what you agree to when you first visit, and you will be able to accept all, reject everything that is not strictly necessary, or choose by category;
- you will be able to change your mind at any time from a cookie settings link in the footer;
- your choice will be remembered for 12 months, and then we will ask again;
- rejecting analytics or marketing cookies will not limit what you can do on the platform; and
- we will record what you agreed to and when, keep that record for 24 months after the choice, and may rely on it with a regulator or in a dispute.
None of that is live yet, because none of it is needed yet. Clause 2 is the commitment that matters in the meantime: this policy changes first, and we ask for your consent before placing anything non-essential on your device.
5. How you can manage this
Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies and clear local storage, usually under settings, then privacy or site data. Your browser's own help pages will have current instructions.
Your choices are specific to the device and browser you make them on. If you use mentorhero from more than one device or browser, you will need to set your preferences on each.
Please bear in mind that blocking storage for mentorhero.com will stop you signing in.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as mentorhero develops. If we make a material change, we will let you know and ask you to review the updated version. The date at the top always tells you when it last changed.
