Version 1.2. Last updated: 1 October 2026.
These standards apply to everyone on mentorhero, mentees and mentors, in every country we operate in. Using the platform means agreeing to them.
1. The short version
Be honest. Be kind. Keep it on the platform. Keep it about careers.
2. Be who you say you are
2.1 Use your real name and a real photo of yourself.
2.2 Give your real date of birth. Our safety rules depend on knowing how old you are, and lying about it puts you and other people at risk.
2.3 Do not overstate your experience, your job title or your qualifications.
2.4 One account per person. Do not share it, and do not let anyone else use it.
2.5 If you are under 13 you cannot use mentorhero. In some countries the minimum age is higher, and the rule where you live applies.
3. Keep it on the platform
3.1 All contact happens through mentorhero: video, messages, bookings.
3.2 Do not share or ask for personal contact details, social media handles or messaging apps.
3.3 Do not arrange to meet in person.
3.4 If someone asks you to move the conversation somewhere else, do not do it, and report it. It is the clearest warning sign there is, and it is why this rule exists.
4. Keep it about careers
4.1 mentorhero is for career advice and support. That is the whole point of it.
4.2 Do not use it to sell anything, promote a business, run a political or religious campaign, or advertise a vacancy.
4.3 Do not ask for money, gifts, favours, investment or a loan. Do not offer them either.
4.4 Do not ask a mentor for a job, a referral or an introduction as the price of the conversation. Mentors help by sharing what they know.
5. Treat people well
5.1 No harassment, bullying, threats or intimidation.
5.2 No abuse or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, nationality, background or anything else about who someone is.
5.3 Nothing sexual. No sexual comments, requests, images or advances, ever, towards anyone.
5.4 No comments about how someone looks.
5.5 No hate speech, and nothing that promotes violence, self-harm, extremism or illegal activity.
5.6 Disagreement is fine. Being unpleasant is not.
6. Respect privacy
6.1 What is said in a session stays in the session.
6.2 Do not record, screenshot or photograph a session or a conversation.
6.3 Do not share someone else's personal information, story or details anywhere.
6.4 Do not post about an identifiable person from the platform on social media. 6.5 Sessions are recorded, so tell anyone who may be seen or heard in the background before you start, and keep them out of shot where you can.
7. Protect yourself
7.1 Do not share financial details, passwords, identity documents, or your home address with anyone on the platform.
7.2 Nobody from mentorhero will ever ask you for a password or a payment.
7.3 If something feels wrong, it probably is. End the conversation and report it. You do not need a reason and you do not need to be polite about it.
8. Turning up
8.1 Book sessions you intend to attend, and cancel through the platform if you cannot make it.
8.2 Repeatedly failing to turn up without notice may cost you access. Someone else could have used that slot.
8A. What mentoring is, and what it is not
8A.1 Mentoring is guidance from someone with experience. It is not professional advice, and it is not therapy, counselling, medical, legal or financial advice.
8A.2 Whatever a mentor tells you, the decisions you take afterwards are yours. Think about your own situation, and get proper professional advice where you need it.
8A.3 Nobody here promises you a job. Not mentorhero, not your mentor, and not the company your mentor works for. Talking to someone does not create a relationship with their employer and does not affect any application you make to them.
8A.4 Mentors are individuals sharing their own views. They do not speak for their employer or for us, and we are not responsible for the advice they give.
8B. Things you post
8B.1 When you write a review, give feedback, or post anything on the platform, you keep ownership of it but you give us permission to use it, including in our reporting and marketing.
8B.2 We may edit for length or clarity. We will not change what you meant.
8B.3 By posting, you confirm it is your own work, it is true, and it does not breach anyone else's rights or privacy.
8B.4 We can remove anything that breaches these standards, without notice.
9. Reporting
Use the report button in the app, or email safeguarding@mentorhero.com.
9.1 Report anything that breaks these standards, anything that worries you, and anything that feels off. You do not need proof and you do not need to be certain.
9.2 Reports go to our safeguarding lead. We acknowledge within one working day.
9.3 Nobody is penalised for reporting something in good faith, even if it turns out to be nothing.
9.4 We will not always be able to tell you what happened afterwards, because it usually involves someone else's private information.
9.5 If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
10. What happens if these standards are broken
10.1 Depending on what happened, we may give a warning, add conditions, suspend an account, or remove someone permanently.
10.2 Some things mean immediate removal with no warning: anything sexual, grooming behaviour, contact outside the platform, threats, lying about your age or identity, and anything that puts someone at risk.
10.3 Where the law requires it, we report to the police, a safeguarding authority or the DBS.
10.4 A suspension while something is looked into is not a finding against anyone.
10.5 Our decision about who uses this platform is final. There is no right of appeal, we are not obliged to explain our reasoning in full, and no refund or compensation is due.
10.6 If your account is closed, do not come back under a different name or email. A new account made to get around a removal is closed as soon as we find it.
11. How we keep the platform safe
11.1 We monitor messages for signs of harm, including attempts to move conversations off the platform and behaviour that looks like grooming. We use automated checks with human review.
11.2 Sessions may be recorded for safeguarding, quality and training.
11.3 Mentors are approved before their profile goes live. Mentors matched with anyone under 18 or with a vulnerable adult hold an enhanced DBS check, or the equivalent in their country, unless a parent, guardian or carer is present.
